Purpose and Direction

What is your purpose and which direction are you heading?

Purpose is something that we must have in life. Something to work on, build, and look back on at the progress. This could be a job or business, physical fitness, personal goal, owning your own home and paying off a mortgage, etc. Do you know where you're heading in life and doing what you really want to do? Without a purpose we can feel lost and confused, feeling like we're at a dead end. Purpose and progression doesn't have an ending because we can progress and learn each and everyday. And once we reach a goal or complete a project, it's on to the next one! That way, we stay motivated and it gives ourselves something to look forward to.

Having a purpose keeps you motivated and on track because you are always working towards something, and even if you have a long way to go you're on the right track! Have a good think about where you’re currently heading. Is it really for you? If not then consider the changes you might have to make and the challenges you're willing to accept. Now is the time to start planning. We may sometimes make mistakes along the way and have to alter our progress path slightly, but that's just the process of life and once we accept that we can expect the unexpected with open arms. It's important to understand that life will come with its challenges, a full mix of happy and sad days, and that we have to accept "what is" and if we are unhappy with our current situation then we do what we can to change it. Because change is a step ahead, and a step ahead in the right direction is making progress. Life gives us challenges, and I know too well that some days I will wake up feeling down, feeling tired, and have a racing mind. But I choose to fight it and focus on feeling good again and working towards what I really want to be doing.

It can be a real confidence boost when you're doing something you love. When you have that passion and drive in what you're doing. Growth is part of life and learning is something we do every day. Come up with a plan, and ask yourself these questions:

  • What do I want to do with my life?

  • Who can help me reach my goals?

  • What changes can I make now to get started?

  • What risks and obstacles may I face, and how do I intend to overcome them?

  • How much am I willing to spend or save?

  • Where do I go to find out the information I need?

  • What resources do I trust?

Many people feel lost in life because they don't believe they have a purpose and are unsure what to do with themselves. If you’re stuck in a routine that feels like a dead end, then tell yourself “I don't want to do this anymore” Figure out what you want and need, and crack on with making progress step by step to live your new  purpose. Sometimes, we can be too comfortable doing something because it's the easy option. But deep down we know we can do much better. Stepping out of your comfort zone can not only be rewarding but it shows you what you’re capable of. I believe everybody has a purpose in life and now is the time to start living it. Build your empire and build it strong.

Take yourself off to a calm and quiet environment in isolation. With no distractions such as screens and other people with you. Use the moment to focus on what you really want out of life and what it is you want to manifest. Visualise everything that your desire. Act like you already have it. Feel the peace of the present moment and all those amazing moments that are yet to come.

We can have many purposes in life, many at the same time. We want to buy a house with our partner, complete that upcoming marathon, loss a lot of weight by this time next year, become a singer and perform in front of a crowd, travel around the world, fall in love with someone who loves you the same back. You see, you don't just have to have one purpose. It's about working towards something greater.

Manage your time

It's so true, life is too short! It's Way too easy to waste it. To ensure you are making the most out of your time on this earth, the way to do this is by time management. Use your time wisely and throughly. Make the most of every moment.

We sometimes need to look at our day to day lives and think Are we doing what we should be doing? Are we doing what we need to do? It's too easy to spend too much time binge watching netflix, scrolling through social media, playing video games, and staying in bed all morning. These aren't necessarily bad things! But when does it get to the point when we need to stop and do something else? Do something productive. How many episodes of that TV series am I going to watch on Netflix before I go out for that walk with the dog or start working on that new project? How many hours of video games shall I play before I need to go to bed to get up in the morning?

This all comes down to 1) Priorities 2) Moderation 3) Awareness 4) Self control

More to this coming soon!

Step by step

Focus on where you're at and where you're heading

Multitasking can be good, we can get lots of jobs done at once to be efficient and save time. It shows we have the skills to take on many tasks and keep our brains active. This is a great human skill we have thanks to our powerful minds.

However, there's a point where our efforts to multitask can be overwhelming and tiring.

The best thing to do is to take things step by step, just focus on the task you are on, stay present in that task, and once completed move on to the next one. Trying to juggle too many things at once means we are focused more on getting it over and done with rather than putting our full focus into doing it efficiently. Have you ever looked around your home and thought "there's so much tidying up to do this will take me hours?" You start by doing the washing up, then you’re onto cleaning the floor and decluttering the fridge, then an hour later you’re cleaned and tidied most of the room. You take a moment to stop and think "wow, that wasn't too bad at all" or "glad that's all done" You see, when you start by taking small steps at a time you soon reach the top of the building!

Focusing on one task at a time sometimes is vital in many areas of life, Imagen driving your car to work, but at the same time you are eating breakfast, on the phone to a client, and doing your makeup. Are you fully concentrating on driving? These distractions could be dangerous. And there are many scenarios where focusing on just one task is vital. By focusing on a task at a time helps reduce stress and helps us to feel less drained.

Get organised to get going:

You need to get thoroughly organised in order to ease your mind of overwhelm and anxiety. By doing so you are able to move forward with a clearer mind and in a clearer environment. A to-do list is great as long as it doesn't make you feel overwhelmed by giving yourself too much to complete, going with the flow might be your best option. The way to look at things sometimes is life is a journey and not a destination, you’ll probably never be able to fully do everything and there will always be a new challenge or obstacle to tackle, there will always be a new opportunity that'll present itself and its up to us how we take it, the way we see it and how we handle it. We’ll always have days where we feel unmotivated and disinterested in the things we want and need to do. Just by spending a little bit of time before you go to bed getting everything ready and set for the morning will ease your body and mind when you wake up. Walking into the living room and having your bag packed and walking into the kitchen to see your lunch ready and prepared in the fridge reduces that morning rush feeling. Rushing around trying to do too much in the morning when we’ve just woken up is really not a good start to the day. Being organised such as cleaning on the go also helps prevent that big build up job that you have when you come home or when you have a day off. Therefore, reducing overwhelm and less items on our mental to do list, allowing us to focus more on the tasks we enjoy in a clearer environment. By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail as the famous Benjamin Franklin quote goes.

Appreciating what you have and progress:

We are so focused on what we want that we rarely take time to appreciate what we already have. We tend to believe that until we have a certain item, be in a certain place or have that person we will not be happy and fulfilled. However, it's important to reflect what we already have dear to us in our lives by taking time to see all that is good. Whether it be your partner, children, family and friends, your job, home, your fitness, your hobbies etc. This is because without this feeling of appreciation we will never truly be happy. We will always feel as if there is something missing, and we are incomplete. There’ll always be that tendency to seek happiness when you may not realise it's already here. The truth is, many of us are always seeking something we don't have or even can't have, and we compare ourselves to others who we perceive as having a better life than our own. This comparison can be a never ending loop where there's always something we feel is missing. People always want more. How can we ever truly be happy if we are always comparing our lives to others or craving something better? Many of us scroll through social media and see the "wonderful" lives our friends, followers and favourite celebs have, or what they present. Then we think "why am I not on holiday there" or "I wish I had as much money and popularity as they do" or "why am I not that skinny" The reality is, a lot of the time people present a different version of themselves online to real life. What you see online through the selfies, holiday pics and post are just the 1% of their lives in that moment. And it takes a second or two to capture an image. Never be jealous of others, you may never know what's really happening in the background. So don't compare to the image of the person and the image of the life you believe them to be having.

If you feel as if you are at a certain point where you feel unhappy with your current situation, then first take the time to consider all the things that you are grateful for and appreciate in your life, consider what you already have that makes you happy. Then, start to look at what you feel you can improve on. Start by making small steps towards your progress goals. Organise and prioritise. If you find goal setting a challenge, then focus more on intentions. Intend to do something with an open mind with options. Having an intention and looking at progress rather than goal setting can work for many people. Once we change our way of thinking and take action by making those small steps then gradually we’ll start making daily improvements. What we must accept is that our day may not go as planned, anything could happen to divert us off route and that's okay, because that's just reality. Happiness is a state of mind, not found externally.

Problems:

Wherever we are at, whoever we are, we will always face problems on a day to day basis, and this will range from big to small and few to many. Once we accept that problems are part of life it can help to ease our suffering. The thing is, once we solve one problem then another one usually pops up. You may have decided to start going for a run in the morning before you start work to help you lose weight, great! but then you have to get up an hour earlier than normal, you have to shower before you start your shift and put up with whatever weather is thrown your way. Once you climb to the top of a big mountain you then have to climb back down right? This isn't a bad thing, it's just when we make decisions we must understand that it will have an impact on the rest of our routine, and changes have to be made to adapt to what's new. We must give up one thing to gain another. We make decisions all the time and aim to resolve our problems, but we can never truly be problem free no matter who we are. It is however a great feeling when we resolve a problem, a sign of relief that a weight has been lifted off our shoulders. But what we must understand is that problems will always be there, it's just how we learn to accept them, handle them, and work on solving them, one step at a time. We will never be problem free but we can not let it get us down.
